Resource Site Spotlight – MMO Champion

Spread the love

Hello Twisted Nether Groupies!

I’ll bet you thought I forgot all about you guys! No, I’ve been contemplating the next Resource Site selections for the upcoming year and I hope to start off 2014 with a bang. 🙂

MMO-Champion

MMO-Champion, now a member of the Curse.com network, is one of the premier news sites for World of Warcraft news, blues, and the latest who’s whose. If you’re wondering what happened today in WoW news chances are they have it. Pulling together blue tweets, Blizz forum posts, patch notes, mounts, pets, videos, tier sets, and just about anything else you can think of, this revolving door of Azeroth can usually tell you what’s going on. But if you’re familiar with World of Warcraft information sites, you’ve probably been here already. What I’d like to share with you is the extras you can get from this site. It’s kinda mind boggling the full amount of information they provide.

Generally, like most, I go to MMO-Champ when I’m looking for a pic of the latest tier sets or for all the patch notes in one easy to read chunk of space. However, once I started looking around I found there is quite a plethora of things to be had here.

mmochamp nav bar

Roaming through the navigation bar will take you to worlds of other things to look through. Let’s take a run through them really quick.

Forums: The forum looks like any other you might run across. Because of the volume of MMO-Champion-ites (?) there is quite an array of topics to get lost in here.

What’s New?: Clicking this will take you to all of the latest forum posts so you can see them all at a glance. I am using ‘glance’ lightly here. Fair warning; 23 pages worth took me through the last 24 hours of posts. If you’re looking for discussion, this looks like the place to be or be seen.

mmodb drop downDatabase: This one surprised me a lot. I had no idea MMO-Champion had a database. It’s  called WOWDB. It doesn’t appear to be as extensive as WoWHead, but it’s clean looking and just as easy to navigate. I did perform a couple of searches to see what information I would get back and found for the most part it’s pretty good. (database drop down to the left). I did find a complete list of all the books you could find laying around Azeroth! Score!

Blue Tracker: Exactly what the name implies, this page gives you a list of all the latest Blue forum posts around the globe. It includes any place where a Blue has created or responded to an official Blizzard Forum posting. I’ve always wanted to know where to find this information and I was really happy to come across this little nugget.

Wiki: This was a neat find for me. This link takes you right to WoWPedia. Quite a plethora of information awesomeness offered in 12 different languages.

Talent Calc: Yes folks its a talent calculator. In my opinion I don’t see much call for these any more but if you’re interested in perusing the talents and glyphs available and seeing what you can come up with, this one looks comprehensive. One thing I liked about this page is that you can select a specific spec and it will give you a list of all the spells you will learn, and at what level you will get them. As well as which ones are spec specific and which are class specific (spells every spec in the class gets).

Raid Comp: Yet another happy surprise for me. This page gives you a drag and drop format for inputting your raid group to help you formulate and see your group composition. It will let you know if you’re hitting all the buffs and debuffs you want/need, as well as if you have all the de-cursing and de-spelling covered. It also gives you a count of who will roll on what tier gear (i.e. Vanquisher/Conqueror/Protector). I have to say I had fun just making stuff up just to see what it would do. 🙂

Videos: Last but not least this link will take you to MMO’s Youtube site. This is where they upload all the videos that are then linked into the site. If you’re interested in just seeing that cool flying mount it would behoove you to go here and poke around. I have to say, this one is pretty darn cool. Iron Skyreaver

So there you have it. There will be more in depth coverage of some of these sites over the next few Spotlights. I hope you stick around and enjoy!

Happy New Year to you all! Now go make the world a better place. 🙂
