Read All About It! TNB is Live This Friday!

Come join us for this special event! That’s right! The next Twisted Nether Blogcast will be recorded live and you can participate! Join us as we raid our virtual roundtable and discuss all things regarding WoW and blogging.

Who is going to be on the show?

We have Kestrel from Kestrel’s Aerie’s, Anna from Too Many Annas, Ratshag from Need More Rage, Rav from NE L4Mobs, PST, Leafy from Lust For Flower, and our two special guests, Nibuca from Mystic Chinicary, reporting live from Blizzcon City and Krizzlybear from Frost is the New Black. Oh those hosts…what are their names…Bim and Fre?

That’s great Bre, stop selling the darn thing, and tell me when it is!

The show is scheduled for Friday, October 10th at 12:30 am EST (yes I know that technically makes its Saturday, October 11th)

Okay that is a start, now where do I go?

To participate on the live show, you will need to go to the TNB Ustream show and use the password tnb73 (the password is caps sensitive. Only use lowercase)

See, easy!

Some general ground rules:

  1. Be nice. If you say very inappropriate things be aware you will be kicked from the room. We are doing this to have a great time, come with a beer, come during a raid, come how you wish, just don’t come to cause trouble.
  2. You may ask questions to the participants during the show, but we reserve the right to use them if and when we can. I will be monitoring the chat room and if I can I will use the comments during the show. We love that you are with us, but I will have to weave them in. Even if it isn’t asked, we all appreciate your questions

Outside of that, we will love to have you join us and partake in an enlightening discussion that is sure to follow!

Hope to see you there!

Shared Topic: Can Another MMO Threaten WoW?

While Wrath of the Lich King apathy has certainly contributed to many guilds’ difficulties fielding numbers for TBC raid content, a second factor in raiding truancy is probably the recent release of Warhammer Online. Produced by Mythic Entertainment, Warhammer Online is probably a better contender for permanent customer theft than this year’s earlier release of Conan due to its lower system requirements and strong parallels to Blizzard’s painstakingly crafted world and the races that inhabit it.

Still, one has to wonder, what would be required for a new MMO to potentially threaten to topple the king of MMOs, World of Warcraft? Is it even possible? This is the question asked by author Skaarjonic of Rogue’s Eye View for this week’s Shared Topic. In his own words:

Why do you think that other MMO’s don’t threaten WoW? Or why do they?

Netherhood Welcome Wagon – Sonny of Arathi Highlander

Welcome Sonny of Arathi Highlander to the Blogging Netherhood.

Yes I got your emails about new blogs while I was on sabbatical and yes I intend to look into them, but today’s blog I found via a comment left for Ego Priest.

“…But I will not participate in the broken record. Grandpa used to say, “If you show the world your balls, someone is gonna kick ‘em.” I agree that you shouldn’t *need* to have rhino skin to write/perform, but you do so you’d better get some….”

I read the comment and giggled at the words of wisdom regarding a problem that plagues almost every blogger from “Hello World” to “Happy 3rd Blogging Birthday” and beyond; nasty little trolls. After my chuckle I looked up and saw this commenter had one of those links back to his site. Ooooo I thought, maybe his blog is full of more stuff like this and so I found myself on Arathi Highlander’s site.

Sonny’s about page doesn’t tell me the basic stats I like to bring to you about 2.5 kids and a college student in Boston. In fact it doesn’t really tell me anything. From what I’ve read he’s a dirty mac user with a coffee problem, he has a smart grandfather, a mother with a blazing hot computer and an ego that might make ego priest consider legal action regarding trademark infringment.

His blog focuses on pvp for the pve mage as he feels all other mage topics are well covered. He provides; guides “In the heart and soul of his guideblog, the Highlander teaches you, the durn fool noob, how to PvP.”, opinions “The Highlander is right about things. He shares them with you in the opinion column.” and well, other stuff “The mages have the best bloggers, followed by the huntards, with druids a close third. Everyone else suxors except Ratshag. *throws down cloth gauntlet*” I think almost anyone will get a chuckle out of his antics and if you’re not careful, you just might learn something.

So, welcome to the blog-o-sphere Sonny, may your readers be numerous and your typos be few.

Every Friday, the Twisted Nether Team has provided me (Auzara of Chick GM) with an opportunity to highlight a new blogger and welcome them to our blog-o-sphere. If you have a wonderful new blog I may have missed, please drop me a line at ChickGM at gmail dot com with a title of Welcome Wagon. I can’t promise to highlight them all but I’ll certainly try.

Shared Topic: Progression Speed

This week’s (belatedly announced) Shared Topic was suggested by Wildwynd of Rick’s Place and is entitled “Progression: When is Slow Too Slow?” Here are a few different suggestions for how you might approach this topic:

  • When does a guild’s lack of advancement make the feet of more progress-minded members start to itch?
  • How can you recognize stagnation?
  • Is stagnation ever a healthy, expected part of a guild’s life cycle?
  • How can you as a member/officer/leader deal with these periods of inactivity?
  • Have you ever witnessed a guild fail due to lack of progress? Could anything have been done that might have made a difference?
