Blog Azeroth Shared Topic: I Just Don’t Get It

SharedTopic_thumb.jpg

Thanks to Ambermist of Tastes Like Battle Chicken our long (inter)national nightmare has come to an end. We have a Shared Topic!

And it goes as such:

Hey, guys!

I’ve been a lurker for a long time. I knew I wouldn’t be good at keeping up with doing Shared Topics so I just kind of stayed out of it and appreciated it from afar. Then, when it was brought up that there needed to be some more Shared Topic ideas, I decided to try anyway.

So I wrote a blog today and I’d like to propose it for a Shared Topic: what about WoW just doesn’t work for you? Maybe it’s something you aren’t good at, maybe it’s something you just don’t understand, maybe it’s something people like that you really never got into and don’t understand the appeal.

I hope I did that right!

Thanks,
Amber

Not only did Amber provide a great Shared Topic idea, she also linked her post as well, completing the circle of the perfect Shared Topic post on Blog Azeroth!

You can find Amber’s post on her site here: Tastes Like Battle Chicken – I Just Don’t Get It

First to answer the call is Bravetank! Check out the post here!

Next to throw their hat into the mix, or post rather, is Matty from Sugar & Blood – RTMT: Mixed Nuts

Another post up by Elkagorasa from Elkagorasa the Casual! – “I Don’t Get It!”

Keep the posts coming, and make sure to link them on the Blog Azeroth Shared Topic thread!

Cheers!

Resource Site Spotlight – WoW Popular

Hello again Twisted Nether Crew and welcome to another Resource Site Spotlight edition!

Today I’d like to focus on an oldie but a goodie. You’ve probably all been here at one time or another but I think it’s worth another look.

WoW PopularNot so very long ago, in the days of talent trees, this was one of the most popular sites to visit. If you wanted to know what the most popular talent selections were for your chosen spec, or if you wanted to know what the best specs were for any given class, this was the place to go.

In the words of the sites creator “WoWPopular tracks the most popular Talent Builds, Glyphs, Gear, Enchants and Gems used by players in World of Warcraft.” The data is pulled from the armory and displays what everyone out there in Warcraft-land is currently using, equipping or reforging into.

I find this site especially helpful when gearing alts. I use this site like a quick reference book. Here is a scenario I found myself in just last week. I recently decided it was time to start gearing up my druid. After some dungeons and Timeless Isle pieces, I got a piece of gear with a gem slot. This is the first time I’ve had to gem this toon in this expansion, oh my! After looking through Icy-Veins and deciding what stats I should be focusing on I then went to WoW Popular to take a look at the most popular gems for balanced druids to see what options I had and make an informed decision before buying anything. I pulled up a complete list of the most used balanced druid gems and could see what sorts of gems I had available to choose from.

You can use this site as a quick reference for any of these topics. Are you curious what the most popular talent selections are for your class and spec? Here you can find a composite picture of what the most commonly used talents and builds are.

This is a screenshot of the current most popular Warlock builds.wowpopular warlock It is quite interesting to see how many other players are weighing in on talent selection. This site has a plethora of interesting tidbits like this. I’m sure Blizzard is looking at similar data, and it’s kinda neat that we have access to it as well.

This is really great if you’d like to see what the most popular choices are by other players. I do put stock in the theory that if most everyone is choosing these talents there is a probably a good reason why, and I might want to look at those same talents as a possible selection. That certainly doesn’t mean these are the right choice for you, but it can open you up to other possibilities within your class/spec talent choices. It’s always good to revisit and see what else is out there. :)

Using the site is pretty straightforward. Pick your class and spec from the first group then select the data you’d like to see for that spec from the groups just below it. You can also select your playstyle if you choose. If you PVP a lot you will want to see what the best selections are for your class in a PVP setting.

WoW Popular has changed with the times quite adequately, and still provides a ton of interesting and useful information. If you haven’t been there this expansion it is definitely worth checking out!

Go now! Go make the world a better place!

Resource Site Spotlight – Ask Mr. Robot

Hello again Twister Nether Travelers!  You asked for…or perhaps Fimlys asked for it…so here it is!

The newly upgraded for your convenience  Mr Robot banner

Recently Zoopercat joined us on the show and talked about all the new features of the site. Here is a another look at the new services provided by Ask Mr. Robot. Let’s start with changes to the look and feel of the site.

There is a new interface to select your characters. The default screen no longer contains the immediate character screen. To find your character select the World of Warcraft drop down and then pick your poison. The first choice is the gear optimizer. After all that’s what we’re all here for isn’t it? Once you click on the Gear Optimizer button you get a new character load screen. Chose your region, server and put in your character name and hit LOAD.Mr Robot character screenFrom here click on your character and you’re off to the optimizer!! You can choose from an array of different things you’d like to look at. Along the top you can load, save, or update your character. You can import your character from here as well. Select import and Mr. Robot will talk you through how to import your character to a lua file for in-game use. Don’t forget to load up the Ask Mr. Robot Add-On to take your optimizing into the game!

Mr Robot Opt screen

Once I started using this screen I found it much easier to understand than the previous iteration. All the buttons are right there. Easy to understand and easy to use. I kept looking around for the old screen until I realized you can just click back and forth between My Gear and Optimized to easily see how the optimizer is changing your gear and stats. It is pretty awesome and amazingly simple.

I am certainly not a theory-crafter but I did enjoy playing around with the stat weights and haste break points to see what it would do :). Even though the site is doing the math for you it feels very accurate. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, and the information is all very laid out for you and easy to understand.

The last item I’d like to cover is the premium service. For $12.00 a year (yes that is $1.00 per month!) you can have these awesome features.

  • Find Upgrades: “Rank upgrades and optimize your bonus rolls” for current content.
  • Valor Upgrades: “Spend your valor wisely…find..the biggest upgrades as well as the most cost efficient”.
  • Bonus Rolls: Find out what bosses you should be spending your extra bonus rolls on. Which one has best percentage for an upgrade for your needs.
  • Raid & Dungeons: Find out which raids or dungeons have the best upgrades for you.
  • Best in Bags: Find out if you have gear in you didn’t know you had hiding in your closet.
  • Robocouncil: Put your raid team into Robocouncil and it will rank gear for your entire team for each boss, and tell you who would benefit the most from each drop.
  • NO ADS!

Over all I found the new site to be super easy, quick, and awesome to use! If you are in need of reforging, are not sure what gem you should be using, have new gear and you are just not sure how to get the most of out it, then you need to check out Ask Mr. Robot.com!

And now my fellow WoW fans…Go make the world a better place!
